The Framework Programmes avail several instruments to support South Africa (SA) - European Union (EU) S&T cooperation. These for example include the Marie Curie Mobility Instruments. There are also non-Framework Programme instruments, for example those presented by the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) or the COST fundamental research programme, available to support cooperation.
Marie Curie Fellowships
One of the main competitive advantages in science and
technology is the quantity and quality of its human resources.
The overall aim of the FP7 People Programme is to make Europe
more attractive to researchers, so as to increase Europe's
capacity and performance in research and technological
development (R&D).
The programme will be implemented through a coherent set of
Marie Curie Actions, addressing researchers in terms of their
skills and competence development in all stages of their
careers, from initial research training to career development
and life-long training, thus imposing no age limit.
Transnational mobility of the researchers, both in Europe and
in the world, as well as intersectoral mobility in academia,
industry and other institutions (e.g. medical) are key elements
throughout the Marie Curie Actions. The Marie Curie Actions
are open to all domains of research and technological
development addressed under the Treaty. Research fields are
chosen freely by the applicants.
